Krissa

It’s a cliche, but it really is just like a fairy tale. This gorgeous man, who looks like he could crush someone just by flexing his bicep, is listening to me, treating me like I’m something to be cherished and protected.

He’s a long shot from the handsy frat boys I’m used to.

And then he leans in to kiss me. His mouth is gentle but confident—damn, he knows how to kiss. I part my lips for him and his tongue sweeps into my mouth, and I’m ready to give him anything he wants. He tangles a hand in my hair as we make out and it’s sweet and incredibly hot all at once.

In what feels like a minute, we’re back at the hotel, and he’s offering me his hand to help me out of the car.

“Can I see you later?” he asks, and gives me a look that’s honest-to-goodness hopeful. Like I could turn him down. Like I’d ever want to.

I whisper my room number in his ear and he presses a kiss against my neck.

I think he’s ruined me for all other men.

After I run back to my room to freshen up, I return to the main convention room, where Miles is answering audience questions. My eyes find Jared on the far end of the stage, and he’s already looking at me.

And I can’t wait to be alone with him.

I’m still thinking about Jared as I exit the room, and my distraction leads me to bump into the middle-aged man in front of me.

“Oh, I’m sorry,” I say to him.

Instead of being a human being about the whole thing, the guy literally sneers at me. “What are you even doing here? Pretending to like the show just so geeks will pay attention to you?”

“Excuse me?”

“I’ve seen your type around here. You act like you’re a Spooky fan, but you’re really just trying to get guys to look at your boobs. It’s pathetic. I bet you can’t name a single episode.”

“Not that I have to prove myself to you, but are you familiar with the blog Spookyesque?”

“Don’t think name-dropping is going to impress me, little girl. We’ve all read Spookyesque. It doesn’t make you special.”

“Oh, so you have heard of it.”

“Everyone’s heard of it.”

By now, there’s quite a crowd gathering around us. A couple people even have their phones out, recording. I can tell that my opponent thinks he has the upper hand by the way he’s smirking at me.

“I created it.”

The hall goes dead silent before one single voice from the crowd yells, “Get him, girl!”

And then everyone around me is cheering and looking disdainfully at my opponent.

It feels like things can’t get any more satisfying until a certain drop-dead gorgeous bodyguard steps up beside me and says, “Mr. McGregor is able to meet with you now, Miss Greenglass, if it’s a convenient time.”

“Lovely!” I reply, and take the arm Jared is offering me. He leads me away to the sound of laughter and cheers.

Jared takes me around the corner to an empty meeting room.
